Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH)

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a significant molecular technique that uses fluorescently labeled DNA probes to detect chromosomal abnormalities. FISH is a simple, yet effective technique with a high sensitivity and specificity that is well-established as a diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic tool in the fight against cancer.
FISH can be used on fresh preparations and formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues. Note that all FISH performed on FFPE tissue is interphase FISH.
