Cysts and Other Hollow Structures of Larger Circumference

Cysts or hollow structures will usually be placed down to the block face to show the internal (receding) surface.
The cut edges of the specimen or outside edges of the hollow structure will form the outer edge of the specimen.
The cut surface will lie at the block face and allow the layers of the cyst wall or hollow structure to be seen in cross-section. It may be best to remove the sebaceous debris from inside a sebaceous type cyst, since this material cannot be effectively sectioned. The material can be placed on top of the cassette rather than within the block.

Correct orientation for a large bisected cyst.
