Efficiency and Equity

Inefficiency wastes resources, results in rework, and may lead to errors that affect patient care. Efficiency can be improved by automating processes that are repetitive. Efficiency can also be improved by limiting the amount of rework that is performed. This can be accomplished by addressing each situation as it arises.
Healthcare professionals should recognize that the health of the entire population can be improved if every patient is treated equally and provided with care without discrimination. The quality of care delivered to each individual should not vary due to personal characteristics such as gender, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.
