Specimen Integrity

As soon as the donor gives the specimen to the collector, the collector must check for three things:
  1. Specimen is within acceptable temperature range.
  2. The acceptable temperature range is 90-100°F or 32-38°C.
  3. Volume of specimen is sufficient.
  4. A minimum of 45 mL is required for Federally-Regulated collections; 30 mL for Non-Federally Regulated collections.
  5. There are no signs of tampering or adulteration of specimen.
  6. Check for unusual color, presence of foreign objects or material, and unusual odors such as bleach.
