Qualified Personnel to Perform POCT Competency Assessment

Competency assessment for POCT will focus on moderately complex testing since this is the highest compliance level for POCT instrumentation and kit testing.
The Laboratory Director is ultimately responsible for the assessment of personnel competency.
As per the Code of Federal Regulations:
1. The Technical Consultant for moderate complexity testing (42 CFR §493.1413(b)(8) (9)) is responsible for performing and documenting competency assessment of all testing personnel and assure that staff maintain competency to perform test procedures and report results promptly, accurately and proficiently. The laboratory director may serve as the technical consultant, if qualified. Competency assessment of testing personnel may also be performed by technical personnel who meet the regulatory qualification requirements for technical consultant for moderate complexity testing.
2. Peer assessment can only be performed if the assessing personnel meet the regulatory qualification of a technical consultant.
