Approved National Certifying Agencies

Florida Admin. Code Ann. r 64B3-7.003 having to do with licensure examination was repealed in 2008. Consequently, the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel no longer administers examinations for licensure in Florida. The Board approves examinations administered by national certifying agencies and accepts the results of the examinations. There are several different agencies with Board approval for the examinations they administer. Once an examination has been passed, a certification designation is given. These designations are referred to in many of the various requirements for categories and levels in Chapter 64B3-5 of the Fla. Admin. Code. The most common agencies are the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the American Medical Technologists (AMT). The Board reviewed each agency's requirements and found that they were equal, or more stringent, to the Florida Board’s requirements. Passing an agency’s examination does not guarantee acceptance for licensure in Florida. Applicant must also meet the education and training requirements.
