Sample Transport and Processing Criteria

Like singleplex assays, attention must first be given to:
  • Sample collection: Assure a representative, validated sample is processed and ample nucleic acids are present.
  • Transport: Assure there is a system in place to maintain the stability of nucleic acids (eg, on ice or with RNA stabilized media when appropriate).
  • Storage: If sample is not processed immediately, storage occurs most commonly at -80°C.
  • Sample processing: Adhere to Standard Precautions.
  • Nucleic acid extraction: When applicable, use manual or automated extraction.
  • Contamination: Avoid contamination by having an appropriate environment that optimizes containment and post processing decontamination (eg, ethanol and bleach).
